Am I too old to start yoga?
No. Yoga does not belong to the young or the naturally flexible. Research in older adults has found benefits in areas such as balance, mobility, flexibility and strength, and the practice can be adapted extensively.
An older beginner may use a chair, wall, blocks, a smaller range of movement or more time between transitions. Those are not lesser forms of yoga. They are examples of yoga being intelligently applied to the person who is actually practising.
The deeper tradition is even more inclusive: yoga is ultimately concerned with awareness, not athletic achievement. The body changes throughout life, but the possibility of becoming more present does not have an expiry date.
