Can yoga help with tight shoulders from sitting at a desk?
Yes, yoga can be very useful for the stiffness that develops when the body spends long periods in one position. Shoulder movement, thoracic-spine mobility, gentle chest opening and conscious breathing can restore movement to areas that have been relatively still during the day. Research also suggests yoga can help some people with chronic neck pain.
But yoga offers another insight: the answer is not only a better stretch after eight hours of immobility. Awareness during the day matters too. Change position, stand up, move the shoulders and notice when tension is accumulating.
A yoga practice should gradually teach you to hear the body earlier, rather than waiting until discomfort has to shout.
